UAHS PTO Shred-It Day

Saturday, April 12
10 am – 1 pm
Jones Middle School parking lot

The event features secure document shredding of up to three boxes of personal documents for a suggested donation to UAHS PTO of $5/box. Originally conceived as a sort of “spring cleaning” event, Heart to Heart has been on site each year since its inception, collecting non-perishable food. This year, First Community has expanded their presence, collecting items for four ministries!

First Community Church Missions will accept donations of:

  • Non-perishable food and personal care items for Heart to Heart food pantry
  • Clothes, jewelry, and music for the Tri-Village Trading Post thrift store.
  • Empty pill bottles to be recycled through Matthew 25 Ministries.
  • Plastic grocery bags to make sleeping mats for the unhoused.

Before you donate, review the details for more information.

See below for details accepted!

Thrift Store

The Trading Post supports First Community Missions. After expenses, 90% of our earnings are directed to the local, national, and international missions supported by our church. At this event we will accept donations of:

  • Clothing
    • clean and in good condition
    • children’s, men’s and women’s sizes
    • casual, dress, and boots
    • outerwear (coats, jackets, mittens, etc.)
    • accessories (belts, scarves, ties, etc.)
  • Jewelry
    • working condition or broken
    • necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings
    • cufflinks, brooches, tie tacks, watches
    • costume or fine jewelry
  • LPs and CDs
  • Picture frames and wall art

While the Trading Post is happy to collect books, decor and other gently used household items, we are unable to do so at the Shred Day event, due to weight and space considerations. (We will have only one van on site and limited volunteers.) You can bring donations to or shop at the store on Monday, Wednesday, Friday or the first Saturday of the month from 10 am to 4 pm. Click here for more information on the items collected and sold at the store.

Pill Bottles

Pill bottles are collected by First Community Missions and donated to Matthew 25 ministries, “for inclusion in shipments of medical supplies [which] fulfills the dual needs of improving medical care in developing countries and caring for our environment.”

Pill bottle requirements:

  • prescription and over-the-counter
  • any size
  • with and without secure caps (child-resistant)
  • clean and dry
  • labels completely removed

More information about this organization and the pill bottle project is available at m25m.org

Plastic Bags

A small group of First Community members turn plastic bags into “plarn” and crochet or knit them into sleeping mats for the unhoused to put on the ground which helps deter moisture and pests.

  • The team accepts clean and dry shopping bags like those from the grocery store, WalMart/Target, drugstore, etc.
  • They cannot accept or use thinner plastic bags such as those used for newspapers or produce.
  • Thick, sturdier plastic bags that are often used for curbside pickup and frozen items are also unusable.
