Holiday Closing

Important Note about Donations

While the pantry is closed, we cannot accept any donations, perishable or otherwise. Staff will not be present to take care of the donations. While we are grateful for the generosity of our neighbors, leaving donations outside will attract rodents and other pests. Please plan to deliver your donations when we reopen on January 2.

December 29 Mission Workday

Amy Caskie will lead a painting, moving and reorganizing in Lincoln Road Chapel, the Annex, and main church building. Volunteering will benefit many Missions of the church, including Heart to Heart, Trading Post, and Refugee Ministry.

One of the main jobs will be moving some Heart to Heart storage into the previous bookstore off Brownlee Hall. The other major job is painting a room in the FC Annex building. This effort will require many volunteers with varying abilities! This is a great opportunity for students to get service hours while they are off school for Winter Break.

Save the Date

Mark your calendars for our annual dinner to celebrate our volunteers and show appreciation for all their hard work. We will meet in the evening on Tuesday, February 6 in Grace Hall at FC North. Please be on the lookout for more information as we continue to make plans.

Special Skills

We understand not everyone can or wants to volunteer during our regular weekly shifts, but may still want to contribute to our overall success. Heart to Heart is on the lookout for a few volunteers with specialized skills to help with projects from time to time. Please let us know if you have a particular interest or are skilled in:

  • Woodworking, DIY, Building
  • Social Media
  • Community Advocacy
  • Elementary Education
  • One time assembly projects (eg. birthday bags)

While we may not have a related project in mind at the moment, these are some needs we have encountered over time and we would love to know who might be interested in helping with these things in the future. Have another skill or interest you think may be useful? Let us know!

Thank you OSU Students

This week we say goodbye to the two OSU students doing their Semester of Service project at Heart to Heart. Colin and Maria were a great addition to our team, and we hear Maria might be back to help out next semester.

The good news is that come February, we have three new students participating in the program! Stay tuned for their introductions next month. Since the past semester was so successful, we are happy to welcome more students and hope this program will continue for some time!

Blanket Distribution

This Monday we were able to distribute comforters to our clients. These items were available through Mid-Ohio Food Collective as a one-time donation. Thank you to our Worship Technology team for capturing this video at the last minute!

$20,000 Match Update

Fantastic News! As of today we have raised $23,765 since November 1. That means we more than met our goal to raise $20,000 in two months. We are so grateful to Duke Thomas for matching these donations in memory of his late wife, Jill Thomas.

Of course, donations are still welcome. Please visit h2h.FCchurch.com/donate to make a contribution. Thank you to our donors!

Christmas Assistance Program

Thank you to everyone that donated gift cards to our Holiday Help program this year. At the last minute, we received a $3,000 donation in gift cards from an anonymous donor, and a $5,000 grant from the Foundation that enabled us to buy the last of the gift cards needed. Including those families supported through the FC Youth Ministry’s adopt-a-family program, we supported 120 families this year.

Volunteer of the Month: December 2023

By Volunteer

Maria Glaros & Colin Appell

We started volunteering at Heart to Heart through Ohio State’s Semester of Service program to connect more with the Columbus community. Though we have only been here a few short months, this opportunity has not only allowed us to gain a priceless experience but has also taught us invaluable lessons. The entire Heart to Heart community welcomed us ecstatically and quickly brought us in to their family consisting of staff, other volunteers, and the entirety of those who are served through this gracious mission. The time spent at Heart to Heart each week was time to look forward to. Connecting with others from different walks of life outside of our own university, that we have the privilege to attend, was refreshing and granted us a chance to view life from a new perspective. We would like to thank Yohan, Amy, all other volunteers, and the entire Heart to Heart community for guiding us through this inspiring and gratifying experience with an abundance of kindness.

Our seasonal site to Southpark in South Franklinton ended this month.  We worked alongside Franklinton Farms from April – November and served 185 families.  We have had the pleasure of working with Becca Brown, Executive Director at Franklinton Farms, for the past several years.  She has taken a new position and will be leaving in December.  Emma Gardner, Philanthropy Coordinator, and Michelle Nowak, Farm Manager, will be our contacts moving forward.  We wish Becca well as she begins her new job.

Our visits to Hope Resource Center have seen an increase in individuals seeking a hot meal, clothing, free on site health clinic and our Pop Up Pantry food. The need is growing.  In October, Hope had 1,593 visits (774 women and 819 men).  We are grateful that Heart to Heart and our Pop Up team are able to be there for those in need.  We have formed many friendships and enjoyed many conversations with our neighbors.

The Southpoint Christmas Gift drive is coming to a close.  We have 27 families signed up.  There are 81 children and 145 gifts total.  Janice Rook and Mark Tucker have been working to coordinate the gifts so all the children’s wishes are granted.  Our Pop Up team will deliver the gifts to Southpoint on Monday, December 11th.

We appreciate all the donors who have contributed to our Southpoint Christmas.  Wickliffe Progressive Elementary School was a big part of this effort along with Women’s Guild Groups, Couple’s Circles, Share and Learn Garden group, many family members and friends along with many others from outside the church.  It is heartwarming to have so many individuals be a part of such an important project to bring cheer to the children at Christmas.

Our team is continually blessed and grateful for everyone who contributes to Heart to Heart and the Pop Up Pantry with their continued donations and service.  We couldn’t do all this without the dedicated individuals who give so freely to our community in need.
