Volunteer Training Opportunities

Make sure you are following the Heart to Heart on both Facebook and Instagram. Social media is one of the best ways for the world to share information! Every time you like or comment on one of our posts, it promotes engagement across the platform. When you share our posts, the information is immediately visible to those in your circle! It quickly helps spread our message- whether it be resource information, a plea for donations, or a volunteer opportunity. Sharing on social media is an easy way to support our mission. Check out these posts from the past week to see what you may have missed.

Mid-Ohio Food Collective Trainings

The Mid-Ohio Food Collective offers regular training opportunities for food pantry staff and volunteers. Trainings on FreshTrak and Food Safety will help you learn more about pantry operations and make you an even more effective volunteer! They also occasionally offer training on advocacy, and other topics that may be of interest to you.

For most trainings, volunteers will need to register with an agency name and number: Heart to Heart Agency #1042

  • Mon, Nov 4 at 2pm
  • Tue, Dec 10 at 10am

Abuse Prevention Training

In January 2016, First Community Church and Akita staff made a commitment to protecting all children from abuse by offering training in the nationally recognized sexual abuse prevention program, Darkness to Light. First Community staff, whether they work with children or not and volunteers who work with children are required to attend a Darkness to Light sexual abuse prevention training. Re-certification for staff and volunteers who work with children is required every three years.

There are two training options currently available for staff and volunteers. Both will be held in Room 101 at First Community North. If you have not been trained, please click the Registration button to sign up.

  • Tuesday, October 15, 6 – 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, November 20, 10 am – 12:30 pm

If neither of the in-person trainings work for you, please consider taking the training online in your own time. The cost of the training is $16.

*If you or someone you supervise has been affected by abuse and is emotionally unable to take the training, please reach out to Rev. Mary Kate Buchanan.

Address Verification

Per MOFC requirements, partner food pantries such as Heart to Heart, are required to verify addresses for clients at least once per year. While it is easy to do this with new clients, it can be hard to remember with our regulars who haven’t moved in a while. For these reasons, we will be making a concerted effort to verify addresses over the next several weeks. If you’re working in the Drive-Thru on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, please pay special attention to this information and Yohan’s morning instructions. We have already started to give a heads-up to clients in the Drive-Thru.

Volunteer of the Month

Michelle Pepin

While I would like to be able to say that through volunteering I am able to give more than I receive, the truth is that what I give can never equal the joy and positive energy that I experience by being part of such a wonderful organization.
