Our Pop Up Panty continues to be blessed by the generosity of Richard Jacob, who purchases and donates a variety of items each week for Heart to Heart and the Trading Post.   Families at our Pop Up Pantry agency sites have greatly appreciated the personal care items donated by Richard.  We are grateful for Richard and his service to our many families.

We are happy to have Melody Smiley back at the pantry this month.  Boyce Lancaster is recovering from recent surgery and we look forward to his return in the near future. Kitty Rohrer is taking time away during April and May due to a work commitment.

Our Pop Up Pantry founding team members spoke about “Our Journey” at Guild RSZ’s meeting on April 11. The presentation was very well received and we hope to share this ministry through speaking with other church and community groups.

In May, our Pop Up Pantry will be delivering food to our agency sites on the following dates:

  • May 4:    11a-2p, Commons at Livingston (1st Wednesday)
  • May 11:   10a-2p, Hope Resource Center (2nd Wednesday)

Every year our Pop Up Pantry team will be rotating one of its Volunteer Co-Lead roles. This will enable us to enhance teamwork and continuity of services among our volunteers.  As such, Rose Kandel will be replacing Janice Rook as Co-Lead beginning next month.

We continue to be blessed by the commitment, teamwork and flexibility of our volunteers to this outreach ministry.

On March 2, the Pop Up Pantry team met with Heart to Heart leadership, a Trading Post volunteer, and a donor who provides generous donations of needed items for the drive thru, Pop Up Pantry and Trading Post each week.  The process for requesting donations from this special donor was clarified during the meeting. Further, the process for providing produce to one of our Pop Up Pantry sites was discussed.

Team members continued to provide clothing items to Hope Resource Center (Hope) in March. We’re proud that Hope was featured in a recent Columbus Dispatch article.  We pray this brings greater awareness of the the growing needs within our community for help to those with drug addiction, mental illness and homelessness.

We’re planning for return to our seasonal site, Franklinton Farms, later this spring. We’ve been serving this site on the second Thursday of each month and don’t anticipate any changes to this schedule.  We’ll  provide updates as we get closer to a restart date.  As Franklinton Farms grows their own produce, the Pop Up Pantry provides only dry goods.

In April our Pop Up Pantry will be delivering food to our agency sites on the following dates:

  • April 6: Commons at Livingston (1st Wednesday)
  • April 13: Southpoint Village Apartments

Kitty Rohrer recently visited with the new agency contact at Wedgewood Village Apartments, a site we had planned to start serving last year.  Due to their staffing issues, we were unable to set up a monthly Pop Up Pantry delivery at that time.  These issues are now resolved and we will be working with Wedgewood over the next few months to begin service to this site.

The Pop Up Pantry team donated several bags of clothing items to Hope Resource Center (Hope) in January.  Volunteer Cathy Wheaton donated baby furniture to Riverview International Center (RIC).  Donations from our church groups included mats made by the Mat Makers team for Hope.  Handmade hats and scarves made by the Knitting Group were provided to Hope and RIC.

Each month we are working to ensure our food meets the needs of the families we are serving at each site.  We have developed guidelines for our sites that have cultural preferences as well as those that are without the ability to prepare foods due to their current living situation.   We have learned and grown spiritually in getting to know these families and are grateful for the opportunities to continue our service to them.

We are saddened by the passing of Melody Smiley’s husband, Matt, after a long illness. Melody lovingly cared for Matt at home over the course of his illness. We are sending many prayers and love to her and her family during this time.

In February, our Pop Up Pantry will be delivering food to our agency sites on the following dates:

  • February 2, 11a-2p, Commons at Livingston
  • February 9, 10a-2p, Hope Recovery Services
