April Bryant
The spotlight this month is on April Bryant who volunteers to answer calls from our Resource Help Line with a small group of volunteers.
“I have been volunteer for over 2 years. I have enjoyed every moment. I might not be able to help fully but I try to give as many resources I can. The clients are happy for the assistance! That’s the most rewarding feeling ever. I’m one of Heart to Heart’s clients. Becoming a volunteer was my way to give back!”
April often shares inspirational quotes, uplifting messages and thoughts to ponder with other volunteers and staff members, which is part of what makes her such a pleasure to work with. This month, she shared this great piece of advice from Maya Angelou.
Margaret Carter, “Coupon Lady”
Margaret Carter first became acquainted with Heart to Heart five years ago after moving to Columbus. She first volunteered as a shopper, but for the last three years she has become well known in the pantry as the “Coupon Lady”.
Heart to Heart provides a coupon box that clients are welcome to search through to save money on items the pantry does not provide. Margaret has stepped into the role of managing, clipping, and sorting coupons.
“Even though this is a very small job in the life of Heart to Heart, it is just a way in which I can play a part in this wonderful ministry, helping clients to save a little money and serving God.”
Thank you, Margaret!
Sheila McGrath
“I have volunteered at Heart to Heart every other Thursday for three years, registering clients at the computer or helping to shop if we are short of shopping volunteers. What I love about my Heart to Heart experience is seeing the relationships that have grown between volunteers and clients making pantry visits a positive experience for those in need, and feeling we are truly doing the Lord’s work when everyone leaves with a smile on their face and a full shopping cart.”
Thank you, Sheila!

Dan Frazier, Columbus Center for Human Services
Hello my name is Daniel Frazier. I usually just like to be called Dan but at Heart to Heart they call me “Dan the man” and it always makes me smile.
I have been volunteering at Heart to Heart every Tuesday and Thursday for about 2 years and I love working with all the other volunteers there. They really take the time out to accept me and get to know me and my staff. I like pushing carts and helping people put their food from the pantry in their vehicles.
It’s very rewarding connecting with people and being able to help them. I also enjoy the occasional cooking classes Heart to Heart offers. If you are reading this and think you might like to help out in your community, Heart to Heart and other food pantry’s could always use some good volunteers.
Sue Adams
Thank you, Sue, our August Volunteer of the Month!
“The most enjoyable part of working weekly at Heart to Heart is the engagement with people, both the people we serve in our community and the fellow volunteers. I am an agent of others who wish to share God’s bountiful harvest and grocery store products. I especially appreciate that our pantry empowers and respects our clients by giving them the opportunity to select their own food. Some people arrive downcast and tired. We do our best to welcome and support them and see smiles as individuals and families leave. My thanks to the grocery stores who share their products with our pantry. May God bless us all.”
Bob Miller, Byers Subaru
Please help us thank our Volunteer of the Month, Bob Miller! Bob has been a resident of Grandview since 1985 with his wife, Jane, and four sons.
He enjoys working with Heart to Heart Food Pantry on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. He picks up the extra food at the end of the week and takes it to one of several local shelters, who welcome the food with open arms.
“In my twenties, I hitchhiked around the country, often penniless and without food. It is a time I remember well….I believe this past experience helps fuel me to help the hungry. Working with Heart to Heart is a small contribution I can make to the world.”
