Art Festival Beverage Booth Volunteers

For the past few years, we have participated in the Columbus Arts Festival, staffing a beverage booth selling water and soda. In return for our service, the festival donates a part of their proceeds to Heart to Heart. We also collect tips at the booth which are ours to keep! Altogether, we earn between $1,000 and $1,500 per year.

This year, we will again be selling water and soda at the Columbus Arts Festival, June 10-12. Yohan will be setting up the booth Friday, Kate will be working all day Saturday, and Amy will close up shop on Friday! We’ll need cashiers, stockers, and leads/talkers. Cashiers must be comfortable with cash handling and technology (iPads and Square). Stocking involves heavy lifting. Volunteers with work with Heart to Heart staff, hand out items, and talk to customers about the pantry. All should be prepared for hot weather.

The Pop Up Pantry team delivered food directly to families at the following agency sites during the month of April:

  • April 6:    Commons at Livingston-35
  • April 13:   Southpoint Village-34
  • April 20:   Hope Resource Center -35
  • April 27:   Commons at Grant-28
  • April 28:   Riverview International Center-30

Monthly totals for 2022:

  • January 161
  • February 159
  • March 154
  • April 162

Our Pop Up Panty continues to be blessed by the generosity of Richard Jacob, who purchases and donates a variety of items each week for Heart to Heart and the Trading Post.   Families at our Pop Up Pantry agency sites have greatly appreciated the personal care items donated by Richard.  We are grateful for Richard and his service to our many families.

We are happy to have Melody Smiley back at the pantry this month.  Boyce Lancaster is recovering from recent surgery and we look forward to his return in the near future. Kitty Rohrer is taking time away during April and May due to a work commitment.

Our Pop Up Pantry founding team members spoke about “Our Journey” at Guild RSZ’s meeting on April 11. The presentation was very well received and we hope to share this ministry through speaking with other church and community groups.

In May, our Pop Up Pantry will be delivering food to our agency sites on the following dates:

  • May 4:    11a-2p, Commons at Livingston (1st Wednesday)
  • May 11:   10a-2p, Hope Resource Center (2nd Wednesday)
  • May 12:   12:30p-3:30p, Franklinton Farms (2nd Thursday)-Tentative
  • May 18:   11a-2p, Southpoint Village (3rd Wednesday)
  • May 25:   11a-2p, Commons at Grant (4th Wednesday)
  • May 26:   12:30p-3:30p, Riverview International Center (4th Thursday)

Every year our Pop Up Pantry team will be rotating one of its Volunteer Co-Lead roles. This will enable us to enhance teamwork and continuity of services among our volunteers.  As such, Rose Kandel will be replacing Janice Rook as Co-Lead beginning next month.

We continue to be blessed by the commitment, teamwork and flexibility of our volunteers to this outreach ministry.

The Pop Up Pantry team delivered food directly to families at the following agency sites during the month of March:

  • March 2:     Commons at Livingston-35
  • March 9:     Hope Resource Center-28
  • March 16:    Southpoint Village Apartments-33
  • March  23:   Commons at Grant-28
  • March 24:   Riverview International Center-30

Monthly totals for 2022:

  • January: 161
  • February: 159
  • March: 154

On March 2, the Pop Up Pantry team met with Heart to Heart leadership, a Trading Post volunteer, and a donor who provides generous donations of needed items for the drive thru, Pop Up Pantry and Trading Post each week.  The process for requesting donations from this special donor was clarified during the meeting. Further, the process for providing produce to one of our Pop Up Pantry sites was discussed.

Team members continued to provide clothing items to Hope Resource Center (Hope) in March. We’re proud that Hope was featured in a recent Columbus Dispatch article.  We pray this brings greater awareness of the the growing needs within our community for help to those with drug addiction, mental illness and homelessness.

We’re planning for return to our seasonal site, Franklinton Farms, later this spring. We’ve been serving this site on the second Thursday of each month and don’t anticipate any changes to this schedule.  We’ll  provide updates as we get closer to a restart date.  As Franklinton Farms grows their own produce, the Pop Up Pantry provides only dry goods.

In April our Pop Up Pantry will be delivering food to our agency sites on the following dates:

  • April 6: Commons at Livingston (1st Wednesday)
  • April 13: Southpoint Village Apartments
  • April 20: Hope Resource Center
  • April 27: Commons at Grant (4th Wednesday)
  • April  28: Riverview International Center (4th Thursday)

Our dedicated and faithful team of volunteers have embraced the mission of Heart to Heart, working together to serve families in the local community.  We continue to be blessed by their commitment and teamwork to this outreach ministry.

Revised Mask Policy

All, due to the new guidance from the CDC and local health authorities, we have revised our mask policy effective today. The new policy is below. I want to stress that three considerations regarding the policy:

  1. You should unmask only if you are comfortable doing so in the setting you are in. Continuing to wear a mask is completely acceptable.
  2. Please be considerate of the preferences of others in and around you, especially in small group settings
  3. This policy is subject to change based on further guidance from either the CDC or local health authorities.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Paul R. Anderson, CPA, CAP
Executive Director of Operations and Director of First Community Foundation
