Volunteers

As students return to the classroom in the fall, we find ourselves in need of more volunteers. We especially need help during our drive-thru hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to noon.

Donations

Increasing demand makes it more difficult to keep certain items on our shelves. Please consider making a donation of these items to the food pantry: peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti noodles and sauce, pancake mix and syrup, cereal and shelf-stable milk. More info on how to make donations at h2h.fcchurch.com/donate

Our continued collaboration with Franklinton Farms is going well.  The South Park families have welcomed us and we are enjoying meeting the families with their children. Franklinton Farms has just recently been able to create some raised beds for the families at South Park Apartments so they can begin working their own gardens and have fresh produce available to them.  We found out many of the residents used to farm back in their country and this garden experience is a welcome sight for them.

The Pop Up Pantry is excited to work with First Community’s K-5 Department on this backpack project.  We have designated Riverview International Center to be the recipient of these backpacks.  We are hoping to receive 50-70 backpacks to deliver to Riverview on August 22nd.

We welcomed another volunteer this month:  Nancy Donaldson.  She will be joining the Pop Up for the summer months.  Nancy came to observe and jumped right in.  She is a wonderful addition to our team.

Melody and I are continually blessed to have the support of First Community/Heart to Heart staff and all the dedicated volunteers who give so much of their time and energy.

Volunteer of the Month: August 2022

By Volunteer

Beth Ryan

I started volunteering for Heart to Heart in December 2020 and pick up meat from Giant Eagle Marketplace Kingsdale every Friday morning. I have become friends with the Giant Eagle Receiving staff and learned to wrangle large cardboard boxes of heavy meat into a truck. I appreciate Yohan’s assistance in unloading the meat at FCC-South. We have a network of other meat pick-up volunteers, such as Glen Zook, Steve Young, and TC Brown, who help cover Friday pick-up when I am unavailable to pick up the meat. We are definitely a team! Recently, I had the opportunity to walk the 26-mile Inca Trail to Machu Picchu along with other members of FCC and friends. It was an unforgettable experience of a lifetime!
