Volunteer of the Month: February 2023

By Volunteer
Volunteer of the Month

The Prescott Brothers

Our Volunteers of the Month are Tommy, Ben, and Andy Prescott! These brothers volunteer nearly every Wednesday evening during our Youth Ministry shift. They take time out of their busy weeknight schedules to fill grocery bags and stock the shelves. All three are speedy yet precise, ensuring each bag is properly filled and organized with care. Tommy, Ben, and Andy also serve on our Open Door Ministry Team and greet congregants and visitors on Sunday mornings. You may have seen them at the 11 am service on January 22 when they shoveled the front sidewalk non-stop during the snowstorm! Tommy, Ben, and Andy are beloved participants in our Youth Ministry and at Heart to Heart. Help us in thanking Tommy, Ben, and Andy for their service!

Collection in Worship this Sunday

We are having a hair care drive during all worship services at First Community this Sunday!
Look for the collection sites out in the parking lots and drop off your donations on your way in or out! We will happily accept standard shampoo and conditioner, however we encourage donors to think about all different hair types and hair care needs. Consider donating shower caps, bonnets, hair oil, gel, dry shampoo, brushes, combs, detanlger, hair masks, curl cream, etc. There are so many different needs and we would love to be able to offer appropriate products to those in need!
Big thanks to Becky and Susan for volunteering to take donations.

Missions Workday

This workday is now 10 am to 1:00 pm. We will be joined by OSU students.

Fundraising Event

Join Colin Gawel and a bunch of local musicians performing a night of Cheap Trick music with 100% of donations to benefit the Heart to Heart food pantry. Doors open at 7pm and Teenage Fanclub Fanclub opens the show at 8pm. Any donation gladly accepted at the door. Thanks to Colin for his continued support of Heart to Heart!

Holiday Help 2022

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Kitty Rohrer. Under her leadership, Heart to Heart offered support to our clients and community members in need of help for Christmas. The Holiday Help program provided for 152 families which includes over 450 children. Kitty took well over 500 requests including phone calls and emails. The program simply would not have happened without her administration of it this past year. Thank you Kitty!

Thank You Letters

Beginning in January 2023 (for December 2022 contributions), we will send donation acknowledgement letters exclusively via email. This allows for faster delivery, better conservation of resources and stewardship of your contributions. Year-end contribution statements are sent by our Business Office in January to all church members and those who have donated over $250 throughout the year.

As our 2022 year comes to a close, the Pop Up Team has been blessed to have this opportunity to be out in our community and to share love and support with our neighbors. In doing so, we ourselves have gained many blessings along the way.

Our Southpoint Christmas Toy Drive was a success.  On Monday, December 12, our Pop Up Team was able to deliver 168 gifts, gift wrap and cards!  The families were so happy to have their children’s wishes come true and many shared thanks.

The Pop Up Team is so fortunate to have the support from First Community Heart to Heart. They have given us the opportunity to continue our outreach in serving our neighbors. The Trading Post has helped us give our friends at Hope Resource Center warm clothing and the Mat Makers provide mats for them.  Richard Jacob continues to bless us with his gracious donations of toiletries each month.  Monday Night Meals help provide bread as they can.  We have so many individuals who volunteer and we are so very grateful to them.  Some volunteer weekly, some monthly and some just once.  We could not do this without them.

The Pop Up Team looks forward to another year of serving our neighbors.

Volunteer of the Month: January 2023

By Volunteer

Lynn Old

As a new resident of Columbus, I was eager to find a setting that would connect people with food.  The idea that food is our common ground has led me to volunteer in various ways of food distribution.  Before Columbus, you might have found me delivering mobile meals, cooking for seniors, or volunteering in the kitchen of an Alzheimer facility.

Heart to Heart Thursday’s drive thru is a highlight of my week.   When I see all the healthy fruits, and vegetables that we distribute to our neighbors, I am thankful for the Heart to Heart volunteers who have worked tirelessly to load, deliver and pack before we begin the drive thru.   I also appreciate the friendship of fellow volunteers who have welcomed a newcomer to this meaningful effort.
